How to configure Xten softphones with MyKanKan

Introduction

Xten has been known for high quality SIP softphones for some time. Initially, Xten launched X-Pro and the free, but slightly limited version, X-Lite. Their 2nd generation softphone, eyeBeam, then replaced X-Pro in September 2004. The most significant change was the switch to the reSIProcate SIP stack from SIPfoundry . This enabled the phone to support all the advanced NAT traversal protocols and added a lot of functionality. The Xten eyeBeam softphone also is the only phone that supports video with consistently high quality.

Different versions of softphones from Xten:

1. X-Lite 2.0 for Windows

2. X-Lite 2.0 for Linux

3. X-Lite 2.0 for Max OS X

4. eyeBeam 1.1 for Windows and Mac OS X ($60 for a single copy)

1. Configure X-Lite to register with MyKanKan

1. Add a USER who will be using the X-Lite softphone

The USER ID should be the extension number only. Leave the extension field empty and enter a PIN. Optionally you can create a user group for all the users who are using an X-Lite softphone. This will allow you to set certain parameters for the group instead as for every phone individually.

2. Configure the X-Lite phone

1. Select MENU (the button on the left side of the green telephone button)

2. Double-click on SYSTEM SETTINGS

3. Double-click on SIP PROXY

4. Double-click [Default] to set up your sipX user configs for registration here

ENABLED – yes
DISPLAY NAME – any string
USER NAME - userpin
AUHTORIZATION USER – userpin
PASSWORD – accountid
DOMAIN/REALM – if using DNS SRV records, then enter the domain.com only
(this will also fill in the [DEFAULT] menu field on the previus config page)
SIP PROXY – www.mykankan.com

4. Click BACK to see the [DEFAULT] menu You should see the entry you made in the DOMAIN/REALM field here.

5. Go back to SYSTEM SETTINGS and then to the NETWORK menu

AUTOSELECT IP – yes
OUT BOUND SIP PROXY – www.mykankan.com
PRIMARY DNS SERVER – www.mykankan.com

7. Click BACK

8. Restart the X-Lite phone

2. Configure eyeBeam to register with MyKanKan

1. Right-click your mouse while the cursor is inside the phone UI, choose SETTINGS...

2. Choose SIP ACCOUNTS - ADD A NEW SIP ACCOUNT

3. Fill in the following parameters:

DISPLAY NAME - any string
USER NAME - userpin
PASSWORD - accountid
AUTHORIZATION USER - userpin
DOMAIN - if using DNS SRV fill in the domain name only (domain.com)
check REGISTER WITH DOMAIN
check USE AS OUTBOUND PROXY
check ENABLE THIS SIP ACCOUNT
